Shooting the short film "Breathe" on the Red Dragon

Been busy as always since I moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles last February.  I had the opportunity to work on some amazing projects.  One of them was to DP a short thriller film.  I shot on the Dragon with Cooke S4 minis.  The film is still in post production and will be until the next month or so. But in the meantime I have 2 bigger projects coming up that I can't wait to talk about.  So until then, stay sharp.

Edit 1/21/15

This short is now available!!!

The short was Directed by Carsten Kurpanek who's background, and bread and butter, is in editing.  He edited the Feature film Earth to Echo that was released July 2014.  It was really gratifying working with such a talented director who knew exactly what he wanted for the short.  Lighting wise, I shot two 2k's through the window and a 1.2 HMI through the bathroom window and a 4x4 kino for the toe of the bed.  And that's IT.  With the camera, I chose the Cooke S4 minis because of my budget 1 and 2 would be that they flare quite subtle (the lens was coated) and they produce some creamy skin tones.  Even they open up to a f2.8 I shot a touch closed to sharpen them a bit and to give an edge of my Bokeh.

Welcome,

My objective on this blog is to document the shoots that I'm on as either a DP, steadicam operator, or as an AC.  We can all learn something new on set, and I'll be here breaking down something that seems clueless or easy, like deciding where an isralli arm goes on the camera and how to tighten it.  And also breaking down which lenses I've used and their qualities about them.  Lighting set ups and styles, what I feel is the most important part of cinematography.  With this blog I'm here to document my journey as a DP and an artist in the film community.
